Steps to fix car pulling to one side

  1. Start cheap and easy: set all four tires to the door-jamb pressure, since even a small side-to-side difference can pull the car.
  2. Look for uneven tire wear — one tire worn more on an edge hints at an alignment problem.
  3. Notice when it pulls: a pull only while braking points more at a sticking brake caliper or uneven pads than at alignment.
  4. If pressures are equal and tires look even but it still pulls, wheel alignment is the likely fix — that is a shop job with proper equipment.
  5. A strong, sudden pull can also be a low or failing tire — check for a soft tire and do not drive far on a damaged one.
  6. When in doubt about steering or braking behavior, do not drive hard — have a shop check the alignment, brakes, and suspension.
