Steps to fix epc light on (vw/audi)

  1. Know what it means: EPC stands for Electronic Power Control, and on VW-group cars it signals a fault in the throttle or engine management system.
  2. Notice how the car responds: EPC often puts the car into reduced-power limp mode to protect itself, so sluggish acceleration with this light is the car doing that on purpose.
  3. Use the rule of thumb: if the car responds normally, driving short distances gently to a shop is OK — if it hesitates, surges, or idles roughly, do not drive it.
  4. Watch for the traction control light coming on alongside EPC — the systems are linked on these cars, so both lighting up together still points back to the same fault.
