Steps to fix oil change reminder light on

  1. Tell the two apart: a yellow 'oil change due' or 'maintenance required' reminder is routine, while the RED oil-can pressure light is an emergency.
  2. If it is the routine reminder, you can keep driving normally and plan an oil change soon at your convenience.
  3. If instead the red oil pressure light is on, stop the engine right away — that is the serious one, covered in its own guide.
  4. After you or a shop change the oil, reset the reminder through the dashboard menu or the owner's-manual reset procedure so it goes off.
  5. Do not ignore the reminder for a long time — old oil eventually stops protecting the engine, even if nothing is wrong today.
  6. If you are ever unsure which oil light you are looking at, treat it as the serious one and do not drive until you have confirmed it.
