Steps to fix dishwasher not draining

  1. Turn the dishwasher OFF and scoop out the standing water with a cup and towel.
  2. Pull out the bottom rack and twist out the cylindrical filter; rinse away food, grease, and debris.
  3. Check the drain area and sump for stuck food, glass, or a dislodged part.
  4. If you have a garbage disposal, make sure its drain knockout plug was removed and the connection isn't clogged.
  5. Inspect the drain hose for a kink or clog where it runs under the sink.
  6. Run a short cycle to confirm it drains; if water still stands, the drain pump may need a pro.
