Steps to fix gas dryer no heat (igniter)

  1. IF YOU SMELL GAS AT ANY POINT: stop, leave, and call the gas company from outside — do NOT poke at the burner, valve, or gas line yourself.
  2. Unplug the dryer before checking the lint screen and vent hose; clean both — a choked vent kills heat and is a fire hazard.
  3. Confirm the outside vent flap opens when the dryer runs so hot air can escape.
  4. Make sure the gas supply valve to the dryer is fully open (some get bumped closed during a move or a floor cleaning).
  5. If the vent is clear and gas is on but it still runs cold, the igniter, flame sensor, or gas-valve coils are the usual failures — the igniter glows then quits with no flame.
  6. Do NOT attempt to replace the gas valve yourself — an incorrect install is a fire hazard. A worn igniter or coils, and anything on the gas burner, is a licensed appliance or gas tech's job.
