Steps to fix maytag dryer af code

  1. Stop running the dryer until the vent path is clear — restricted airflow is a leading cause of dryer fires — then unplug it before you start work.
  2. Pull the lint screen and clean it thoroughly; if it carries a film from dryer sheets or softener, wash it in warm water and let it dry completely.
  3. Pull the dryer away from the wall, disconnect the vent hose, and clear the lint packed inside; straighten any crushed or sharply-bent section while you're back there.
  4. Go outside and clean the exterior vent hood, and confirm its flap swings open freely when the dryer runs.
  5. Run the dryer and feel the airflow at the outside hood — Maytag says it should be at least as strong as a hair dryer on high; anything weaker means lint is still packed somewhere in the duct.
