The Maytag washer LF code means Long Fill — water isn't reaching the machine fast enough, and F8 E1 and LO FL flag the same fault on other models. On a Maytag washer the LF code usually traces to faucets that aren't fully open, sediment-clogged inlet screens where the hoses connect, or a drain hose shoved so deep into the standpipe that the washer siphons while it fills. Steps to fix maytag washer lf code

  1. Check both water faucets behind the washer are turned fully on — a half-open hot or cold valve is the most common LF cause.
  2. Straighten any kink in the fill hoses where they run behind the machine; if you use flood-safe hoses, their internal shutoff can trip and stay shut, choking the fill.
  3. Turn the faucets off, unscrew the fill hoses at the washer, and check the small inlet screens just inside the connections — sediment clogs them slowly until the fill takes too long; clean them gently and reconnect.
  4. Check the drain hose isn't pushed more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe — shoved deeper, the washer siphons water out while it fills, so it never reaches level and throws LF.
  5. Rule out low household water pressure — if LF only appears while sprinklers, showers, or other big draws are running, the washer is being starved, not failing.
  6. If LF, F8 E1, or LO FL returns with the valves open, the screens clean, and the drain hose seated right, the washer's fill system needs a proper diagnosis — call an appliance-repair pro.
