Oven error code F9 (door lock)

An oven error code F9 is a door-lock fault — the control can't properly engage or release the lock mechanism, most often after a self-cleaning cycle leaves the door stuck. Steps to fix oven error code f9 (door lock)

  1. If F9 appeared right after a self-clean, let the oven fully cool — the lock often won't release until the cavity is back to room temperature.
  2. Reset the control: switch the oven's breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON, which frequently frees a lock stuck by a glitch.
  3. Look at the latch area and clear any debris, foil, or spillover keeping the door from closing all the way.
  4. Watch the lock motor when you start or cancel a clean cycle — if it grinds, buzzes, or does nothing, the lock assembly is stuck.
  5. Do NOT force the door open against the lock — you can break the latch or the mechanism.
  6. If the lock won't engage or release after cooling and a reset, the door-lock motor assembly or its wiring has failed and needs a licensed appliance tech.
