Printer not printing

A printer that won't print is usually a stuck job, an offline status, or a paper/ink issue — not dead hardware. Most of it clears in a couple of minutes without any tools. Steps to fix printer not printing

  1. Check the printer's own display for an error — out of paper, jam, low ink, or lid open — and clear whatever it flags.
  2. Open the queue on your computer and cancel any stuck job; a single jammed job blocks everything behind it.
  3. Confirm the printer isn't set to "Offline" or "Use Printer Offline," and that it's the default printer.
  4. Power-cycle the printer (off, 30 seconds, on) and, for Wi-Fi printers, make sure it's on the same network as your computer.
  5. Open a paper tray and the cartridge door to clear a hidden jam; remove torn paper by pulling in the direction the paper feeds.
  6. If it prints a test page from its own menu but not from your computer, reinstall the printer driver; if it won't self-test either, it may need service.
