Samsung fridge 88 88 error
The Samsung fridge 88 88 error means the control board was interrupted during bootup — usually by a power outage or surge — and is stuck in its startup self-test. Every segment lighting up as 88 88 is normal for a few seconds at power-on; stuck for over a minute means the board is in a boot loop. Show SightLine the display and SightLine walks you through resetting a Samsung fridge stuck on 88 88.

Steps to fix samsung fridge 88 88 error
- First, just watch it: 88 88 for two to five seconds right at power-on is the normal display self-test — if it clears on its own, nothing is wrong.
- If it's stuck for over a minute, unplug the refrigerator (or flip its breaker) and leave it off a full 60 seconds so the control board fully powers down.
- Plug back in and watch: after a clean boot the display should switch from 88 88 to real temperatures within a few seconds.
- Still stuck? Try the panel reset: press and hold Power Freeze and Power Cool together for about 10 seconds until the fridge beeps.
- Check the food while you're at it — if the fridge sat warm through the outage, perishables above 40°F for more than 2 hours should be tossed.
- If 88 88 survives both the unplug and the button reset, the main control board is failing and needs a Samsung service tech — that's a board swap, not a DIY fix.
Safety first: if a step calls for gas, a main water or sewer line, a service panel or main breaker, or a sealed refrigerant system, stop and call a licensed pro — Repair Copilot will tell you when you're there.
