Samsung ice maker frozen
A Samsung ice maker frozen over with a sheet of ice is one of the most common Samsung fridge complaints — the whole tray locks up and stops dropping cubes. On a Samsung refrigerator the frozen ice maker usually comes from a leaking flap or seal letting frost build up. Point your camera at the ice maker and SightLine walks you through thawing and resetting a frozen Samsung ice maker.

Steps to fix samsung ice maker frozen
- Pull out the ice bucket and check the ice maker — if it's caked in a solid sheet of frost, that buildup is jamming it.
- Try the reset first: with the bucket out, press and hold the ice maker's test button until you hear a chime, then reinsert the bucket and wait a few hours.
- If it's frozen solid, do a full thaw — either run the fridge's Forced Defrost mode (check your model's button combo) or turn the fridge off and leave the freezer open for a couple of hours with towels down to catch melt.
- Confirm the freezer is set to about 0°F / -18°C — too cold and the maker over-freezes, too warm and cubes clump.
- Make sure the water supply valve to the fridge is fully open and the water filter isn't overdue, since low water flow makes thin cubes that freeze the tray.
- If the ice maker refrosts within days of a thaw, a worn ice-maker seal or a firmware issue is likely — check for a SmartThings firmware update, and if it keeps freezing, request Samsung service.
Safety first: if a step calls for gas, a main water or sewer line, a service panel or main breaker, or a sealed refrigerant system, stop and call a licensed pro — Repair Copilot will tell you when you're there.
