Steps to fix washer not spinning

  1. Redistribute the load — a lopsided or overstuffed drum makes many washers refuse to spin; run a smaller, balanced load.
  2. Make sure the machine is level and not rocking; adjust the feet if it walks or wobbles.
  3. Check that the lid or door latches fully — a bad lid switch or door lock stops the spin as a safety feature.
  4. Follow the drain hose behind the machine: a kink or clog leaves standing water that blocks the spin cycle.
  5. Confirm the water fully drains during the pump-out; if it never drains, the drain pump or filter may be clogged.
  6. If it's level, balanced, latched, and draining but still won't spin, the drive belt or motor coupler is worn — call an appliance-repair pro.
