Steps to fix whirlpool dryer f01 error

  1. Unplug the dryer, wait five minutes, plug it back in, and retry — a one-time F01 glitch can clear with a full power reset.
  2. If F01 returns, unplug the dryer again before opening anything — you're about to work next to the control board and you want the machine dead first.
  3. Open the left side panel — on a Whirlpool Duet dryer the main control board sits behind it, above the drum — and get eyes on the board itself.
  4. Look for visibly burnt or scorched spots on the board — a browned patch or a burnt-electronics smell means the board shorted internally, which is exactly the failure F01 flags.
  5. Check the wiring-harness connectors on the board are fully seated — reseat any loose plug, close the panel back up, plug in, and retry the cycle.
  6. If F01 comes back after the reset and the reseated connections, Whirlpool's own diagnosis is a failed main control board — replacement or a board-repair service, and that swap is an appliance-repair pro's job.
