Steps to fix whirlpool dryer not heating

  1. Unplug the dryer (or switch its breaker off) before checking anything at the back or the lint area.
  2. Clean the lint screen AND the vent hose all the way to the wall — a packed lint path kills heat and is a genuine fire hazard.
  3. At the breaker panel, an electric dryer uses a DOUBLE breaker; losing one pole leaves it tumbling cold — flip the double breaker fully OFF, then back ON.
  4. Confirm the outside vent flap actually opens when the dryer runs so hot, moist air can escape.
  5. If lint is clear and both breaker legs are good but it still runs cold, a blown thermal fuse, heating element, or thermostat is the likely cause.
  6. Replacing a heating element or thermal fuse means opening the cabinet and working near 240V wiring — if that's beyond you, call a licensed appliance pro.
