Steps to fix whirlpool fridge po code

  1. Don't panic — PO means the fridge lost power long enough for the freezer to reach 18°F or higher; it's an indicator, not a fault, and nothing needs repairing.
  2. Clear it by acknowledging: press the button under the word Confirm on the display — on many models that's the Measured Fill button — and the display returns to normal.
  3. Food safety first: perishables in the fridge section that sat above 40°F for more than 2 hours should be thrown out, not taste-tested.
  4. In the freezer, food that still has ice crystals can safely be refrozen; anything fully thawed and warm should go.
  5. Give the fridge a few hours to pull back down to temperature — about 37°F in the fridge and 0°F in the freezer — before restocking.
  6. If PO keeps reappearing with no outage, or the fridge won't come back down to temperature, the outlet, cord, or the fridge itself needs checking — an electrician or appliance pro can trace it.
