The Whirlpool washer error F21 means the machine is taking too long to drain — it is a long-drain fault, not a dead motor. On a Whirlpool front-load washer the F21 code almost always traces to a clogged drain-pump filter, a pinched drain hose, or too many suds from over-dosing HE detergent. Steps to fix whirlpool washer error f21

  1. Unplug the washer before opening anything at the bottom front — you will release trapped water and want the machine dead first.
  2. Open the little access panel at the lower-front corner, put a shallow pan and towels down, and slowly unscrew the drain-pump filter to let the standing water out.
  3. Pull lint, coins, hair ties, and stray socks out of the filter housing and check the impeller behind it spins freely.
  4. Follow the drain hose behind the machine and straighten any kink; confirm the standpipe it feeds into is not itself clogged.
  5. If you have been using regular (not HE) detergent or too much of it, run a rinse-only cycle — excess suds alone can trigger F21.
  6. Plug back in and run a drain/spin; if F21 returns with a clean filter and clear hose, the drain pump itself is failing and needs replacing — an appliance-repair pro can confirm.
