Whirlpool washer F5 E2
The Whirlpool washer F5 E2 error is a lid-lock failure: the machine can't confirm the lid is latched, so it refuses to run. On a top-load Whirlpool the F5E2 code usually means something is blocking the lid strike, the load is overstuffed and pushing the lid up, or the lid-lock assembly has worn out. Show SightLine the lid and latch area and a handyman persona walks you through clearing the F5 E2 error.

Steps to fix whirlpool washer f5 e2
- Open the lid and clear anything sitting in the lid-lock area or caught in the strike where the lid latches.
- If the drum is packed full, pull some laundry out — an overstuffed tub pushes the lid up so the lock never engages.
- Close the lid firmly and deliberately so you hear it seat, then try the cycle again.
- Reset the control: unplug the washer for 5 minutes, plug it back in, and start a cycle.
- Watch and listen when it tries to lock — if the lid-lock motor clicks but never latches, or does nothing at all, the lid-lock assembly has failed.
- A failed lid-lock assembly or a broken strike is a straightforward part swap, but if you are not comfortable pulling the top panel, call an appliance-repair pro.
Safety first: if a step calls for gas, a main water or sewer line, a service panel or main breaker, or a sealed refrigerant system, stop and call a licensed pro — Repair Copilot will tell you when you're there.
