Wi-Fi keeps dropping
Wi-Fi that keeps dropping is usually overheating gear, a crowded channel, or a router that just needs a proper restart — rarely a dead router. Show SightLine your modem and router and their lights and a patient handyman persona walks you through the checks that clear up most drop-outs in a few minutes.

Steps to fix wi-fi keeps dropping
- Power-cycle properly: unplug BOTH the modem and the router, wait 30 seconds, plug the modem back first and let it fully light up, then the router.
- Check the cable from the wall to the modem and the modem-to-router cable are snug — a loose coax or Ethernet causes intermittent drops.
- Make sure the router has open air and isn't boxed in or stacked on other hot electronics; heat causes it to reset itself.
- Move closer and test — if it's solid near the router but drops far away, it's range/interference, not a fault; relocate the router higher and more central.
- In the router's app or admin page, switch to a less-crowded Wi-Fi channel and confirm the firmware is up to date.
- If it still drops with fresh firmware and a good restart, the drops trace to your internet line — that's a call to your ISP.
Safety first: if a step calls for gas, a main water or sewer line, a service panel or main breaker, or a sealed refrigerant system, stop and call a licensed pro — Repair Copilot will tell you when you're there.
